NITROX-VERSATILE COMBINATION OF NATURAL AMMONIA BINDER AND SYNTHETIC NITRITE OXIDIZER

Composition: Natural saponins and powerful oxidizers in an inert carrier.

Ammonia in Aquaculture: Ammonia is a free nitrogenous compound commonly encountered in aquaculture ponds. It forms due to improper breakdown of proteins and other nitrogenous materials present in feeds, dead algae, and fish excreta settling at the pond bottom. Ammonia becomes toxic to fish/shrimp above 1 PPM. Nitrites, under-oxidized products of ammonia, further exacerbate toxicity in pond water. Ammonia and nitrite toxicity peaks during late afternoon and early evening. The main sources of ammonia in fish/shrimp ponds are excretion and protein in feed. Insufficient microbial flora at the pond bottom allows ammonia/nitrite accumulation. Regular application of Nitrox to aquaculture ponds prevents ammonia and nitrite formation, converts nitrites to nitrates, and enhances phytoplankton growth.

Toxicity Threshold: Typically, 0.53 – 22.8 PPM is considered toxic, with problems beginning at levels exceeding 0.1 PPM. Excess levels can damage skin, eyes, gills, and internal organs.

Effects of Ammonia/Nitrites on Fish/Shrimp:

  • Fish/shrimp from ponds with excess ammonia develop poor flavor.
  • Increased disease susceptibility, stress, and mortality rates.
  • Decreased oxygen levels in the pond.

Benefits of Nitrox:

  • Saponins and polysaccharides in Thionox efficiently bind ammonia and toxic gases, promoting growth of beneficial gut and pond bacteria.
  • Powerful oxidizing agents convert ammonia and nitrites into nitrates, beneficial nutrients for plankton.
  • The combined effect of saponins and oxidizing agents in Nitrox rapidly reduces ammonia levels in ponds, alleviating fish/shrimp from ammonia toxicity.

Dosage: 200-500 grams per acre per meter depth, applied monthly or as advised by the aquaculture consultant.

Application: Mix the required Nitrox dosage with 100-200 kgs of sand and uniformly broadcast over the pond in the morning.

Availability: 0.5 kg pouch.
